On Nov. 19, Hilo Toastmasters and guests gathered to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Toastmasters International and six distinguished club members who have belonged for 10 years or more.

On Nov. 19, Hilo Toastmasters and guests gathered to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Toastmasters International and six distinguished club members who have belonged for 10 years or more.

Those honored were Andrea Gill, Lily Chow, Joann McCabe, Julie Hugo, Kendal Lyon and Sherri Carden, who recently received her Advanced Communicator Gold Award.

Ram Rao, event chairperson said, “We have an impressive group of Toastmasters who have attained the ability to communicate exceptionally and also lead and motivate other club members to achieve their potential.”

Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to overcome their fear of public speaking and sharpen presentation skills.

Hilo Toastmasters meet at 614 Kilauea Ave. every Tuesday from 12:10-1:10 p.m. and on the first and third Thursday of the month, 5:30-7 p.m. Guests always are welcomed.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations.
